A caregiver's story
When my husband Richard found out he had cancer of the prostate, he thoroughly looked into all the treatment options. One of the main reasons he chose cryotherapy was the easier recovery time. He was only going to be in the hospital overnight and would be back on his feet immediately following the procedure. And in view of his history of heart problems, we felt that this would be a lot easier on him. Of course, it was also much easier for me not to have to take care of someone who had undergone major surgery.
It’s been several years since Richard’s procedure, and we’re both happy and healthy. Although my husband became impotent after the procedure, we're still very close emotionally. And that is the most important thing to me.
When we first learned that Richard had cancer of the prostate, I was really upset about it. I felt that the cancer could change the rest of our lives. But I have to admit now that nothing has really changed, and I rarely think about the cancer anymore. We’re looking forward to going into the senior years feeling good and still being able to enjoy each other and all of our activities, like traveling, boating, and fishing.
